Meet Graduate Student, Katie Button. Katie works for the National Park Service and just received a new job with the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network. She credits her experience in graduate school with giving her the tools and skills to be successful in this new position. Katie notes that she believed the graduate program “instilled confidence” in herself and that she feels ready to fill a Biologist or Ecologist role with her education!

Meet graduate student Bernie Gracie! Bernie hails from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where he has worked tirelessly to promote clean watersheds in and around his home and understand the challenges they face. Bernie says that he has become a better leader and that his “lakes community have benefited from the investments in community science and grants from VTDEC that are a direct outcome of the program at PSC.”

Dr. Val Titus loves the Adirondacks, which is evident in her teaching style . She loves getting students out into the ecosystems that make the region so unique. Val draws inspiration from the topics she enjoys, which include anything about the outdoors, wildlife science, and conservation history. In a recent communication, she told us that she is “a total documentary nerd and I absolutely LOVE anything with David Attenborough.”

Meet Dr. Valorie Titus! Val is an instructor for the Graduate Program and serves as the Program Coordinator for Natural Resources Conservation Management. When asked about her favorite course to teach, she enthusiastically said herpetology and added that she enjoys classes that get her and her students out in the field. She is looking forward to teaching Ecological Services for the grad program this summer during the on-campus residency!

One of our favorite parts of the graduate program summer residency is the farm dinner. Students tour several different Adirondack farms, then enjoy a local farm-to-table meal to celebrate the end of two busy weeks!
