Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting Central students who are outbound for international education programs this fall. Madison will be heading to Murcia, Spain! Here's what she's looking forward to:

"I'm most excited to get to Spain and challenge myself with really mastering the language! I'm excited to learn things that I would never be able to in class like local slang and differences in cultures. It's also my chance to force myself out of my comfort zone by going to a completely different continent! When else will I get this opportunity?"

This summer, 14 students and 2 professors spent two weeks in Antigua, Guatemala studying Spanish, visiting historic sites, living in homestays, and taking part in service-learning.

Students took Spanish classes at the Kakaw Cultural Spanish School each morning and spent the afternoons and weekend exploring the rich culture, history, and geography of Guatemala.

A highlight of the trip was participating in service-learning with the organization ImagininGuatemala in the village of Mano de León, a village of about 80 people, where students painted houses, installed wood-burning cooking stoves, and played soccer with the kids. Students spent three afternoons and all day on a Saturday getting to know the people of Mano de León and interacting in the language and culture.

My study abroad experience was full of learning. I learned about myself, people of different cultures, how to be independent, Austria, and the differences I would like to make in the future.
