Red Springs Artspace is pleased to present a solo show of works by Janette K Hopper

"Acute Observations: Expansive Experimental Works Inspired by Water & Sky"

Hopper is an internationally known Wilmington based artist whose paintings are found in prestigious collections in several European nations and many U.S. states. She has been in over 300 solo, invitational and group shows in art centers, museums, galleries and juried exhibitions. Some highlights include shows with New York City artists in the Lincoln Center in NYC, a Fulbright juried retrospective in Washington, DC, and a joint 2 person show in Madrid Spain. She has had solo shows at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, in Bordeaux France, Copenhagen Denmark, Mannheim Germany and Asheville NC. Her art, which includes drawings, watercolors, oil paintings, prints, sumi ink scrolls, and masks, is owned by over 60 public spaces such as museums, colleges and universities.

This engaging course covers the structural and mechanical aspects of the greenhouse environment. You will compare greenhouse systems with regard to styles, frames, covers, benches, mechanical controls, lighting, irrigation, and fertilization. This course focuses on management practices in production greenhouses, and covers irrigation and fertilization practices that result in high quality plant material. Here, you will examine the wholesale and retail nursery industry in North Carolina. Lecture and Lab. PREREQ: BIO 1000 with a C or better, MAT 1070

Dr. Silvia Smith will be teaching a special topics course entitled "Principles of Forensic Science" in Summer II (online), which is cross-listed with Criminal Justice. This course may be counted as a Bio electives for the General Biology major or as an elective for other degree plans with Dr. Woriax's approval.

Pre-requisite: ENG 1050.

BIOS/CRJS 3135 Principles of Forensic Science
Are you interested in Forensic Science? This cross-listed course introduces students to the application of the physical, biomedical and social sciences, crime scene investigations and the analysis and evaluation of criminal suspects.

Students will learn:
Basic human anatomy
Death investigation methods
Analysis of disease and trauma
Identification of unknown dead persons using anatomical or molecular signatures
How a crime scene is investigated

Course Attributes:
Summer II
Online course with one synchronous weekly meeting on Zoom on Tuesdays 5-6 p.m.
The course counts as Criminal Justice and Biology elective credits.
Suitable for both Criminal Justice and Biology students, as well as other majors.

The UNCP U-RISE program is looking for students who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research. U-RISE matches students with a research mentor and supports their independent research project, while offering guidance on graduate school and career options for science PhDs. Our RISE cohort would start with a paid on-campus research experience THIS summer.

The application is due February 14th, and we will have an information session on February 3rd at 3PM (SCI 2239), If students have questions, please contact any of the PI's (Dr. Courtney Alexander, Dr. Bob Poage, or Dr. Amber Rock) by email. In addition, Dr. Alexander has office hours in HSCI 159 (MW 10-12 and Th 11-12) would be happy to speak with you about the program.

This program is free of charge and open to anyone that has an interest in sustainable agriculture for our region. The program consists of 10 weekly sessions beginning in March which focus on sustainable agriculture and agribusiness concepts. Workshops are held Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 pm.
