UWF Speech & Debate UWF Speech & Debate is a nationally ranked competitive forensics team.

Our season has begun! On September 27-28, 2026, UWF Speech and Debate hosted the first competition in the annual Sunshine Series. This set of tournaments is a collaborative effort of the teams at the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, and the University of West Florida. This competition had 22 schools participating from 10 different states. 110 students from all over the United States participated in the event.

UWF not only co-hosted the event, but also brought home some exciting season-opening results.

Tuesday Williams finished 1st place in Quadrathon, a competition for students in four or more speaking events.

The pair of Kaylyn Allen and Ashlee Hammonds finished 1st place in DUO interpretation.

UWF had 3 of the 6 finalists in After Dinner Speaking:
2nd Place: Isis Pariz
3rd Place: Kaylyn Allen
6th Place: Tuesday Williams

On February 14, 2026, the University of West Florida hosted the Marks Invitational. 8 schools from 6 different states participated, with over 40 students and over 100 competitive events taking the stage. UWF had a great showing and is proud to announce the following placings.

-Charlie Kern, Kaylyn Allen, and Libby Hutchison were pentathlon competitors. This unique award recognizes students who compete in five competitive events, making this the top overall speaking award a student can receive at a tournament.

The Spring Semester is upon us! On January 9th and 10th, UWF co-hosted and competed in the third installment of the Sunshine Series. This is a set of free online competitions, co-hosted by the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida, and the University of West Florida. This competition was attended by 14 different colleges across 3 time zones, and had 55 total students in competition. We had several standout student performances:

Libby Hutchinson- Quarterfinalist in IPDA Debate
Mea Brahier- 1st Place in Communication Analysis, 6th Place in Impromptu Speaking
Asher Anderson- 2nd Place in After Dinner Speaking, 5th Place in Impromptu Speaking
Kaylyn Allen- 2nd Place in Programmed Oral Interpretation.
Tuesday Williams- 4th Place in After Dinner Speaking
Daphne Deckbar- 6th Place in Informative Speaking
Charlie Kern- 5th Place in Informative Speaking, 7th Place in Programmed Oral Interpretation.
