Since our founding in 1970, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria has enhanced the central Illinois region by educating medical students, residents, and fellows as well as performing the latest in research. The James Scholar Program for Independent Study is an honors research program for all College of Medicine campuses. Students work closely with a mentor for three to four years on a specific research project, and those who meet all the milestones graduate with the James Scholar distinction.

UICOMP and the Library of the Health Sciences are once again a part of the Peoria Academy of Science and the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s Science Treasure Hunt. This event is a combination of family adventure, scavenger hunt and fun learning focused on science and technology facilities in the tri-county area.

Between now and August 2026, students in 1st through 8th grade can take part in the hunt. To get started, visit ScienceTreasureHunt.org.
