Welcome to the page of the College of Engineering and Technology at Bradley University. The focus of the College of Engineering and Technology at Bradley University is engaging, hands-on, team-based engineering education. Our faculty have achieved a high level of technical competence in their field, and are committed to teaching and mentoring students. Some of this hands-on activity is pa

rticipation in student projects such as the ASCE Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Competition, the SAE Formula car competition, and participation in the University's Exposition of Student Projects. Virtually all our senior projects are industry supported real problems for which the student teams provide real engineering solutions. With available co-op positions, summer internships, and our unique industry practicum program, our students can gain valuable "on the job" experience that makes them sought by industrial employers.

“Thinking of things as systems rather than small individual parts is invaluable.” ⚙️💻
For Zachary Dixon (’25), the path from Mechanical Engineering to becoming a Quality Engineer at Walmart was paved by a "holistic" mindset. While technical foundations like machine design and failure analysis remain a part of his toolkit, Zachary credits his Bradley education, specifically core classes like Thermo, Fluids, and Controls, for shifting his focus toward the "big picture."
“The biggest day-to-day work is lots of analytics on how to improve performance holistically, rather than in small finite parts,” Zachary explains.

Zachary’s Bradley experience wasn't limited to the engineering labs. A lifelong musician, he was a fixture in the Bradley University Chorale, Bradley Ballroom, and the Basketball Band, while also staying active in ASME. 🎶🕺
“At larger schools I considered, I wouldn’t have been able to perform in flagship ensembles while pursuing engineering,” Zachary says. “Bradley allowed me to have an excellent technical education and still be active in other passions, without sacrificing either.”

We love seeing our alumni find success by bringing their technical expertise and their creative passions to the professional world. Congratulations on all your success, Zachary! ️🚩

Wednesdays are for Business & Engineering Club. This past semester, students from
Pekin Community High School District 303 and Peoria Public Schools District 150 visited the Business and Engineering Convergence Center to learn about career paths for the future. The students pictured had the opportunity to work with Jeremy Brockhouse, Machine Shop Supervisor and BECC Safety Coordinator, in the Machine Shop, and Professor Heidi Rottier explained the basics of marketing through a case study of Taylor Swift. We love giving these future Braves a glimpse of where their curiosity can take them.

Things might be a little quieter here over the next few months. We'll still be here sharing stories of Braves learning new things and making a difference, but maybe not as often. We encourage you to savor the summer sun and make time to enjoy the break. August 26 will be here before you know it.

This week, we shine our spotlight on Civil Engineering major, Ethan Sountris, from Moline, Illinois. He shares his experience at the International Roofing Expo in Las Vegas:

“This past January, I had the opportunity to go to Las Vegas for the International Roofing Expo (IRE) and represent Bradley at the Roofing Alliance’s 12th annual construction management student competition. The competition challenges student teams to act as roofing contractors and develop a comprehensive bid proposal for a real commercial roofing project. This involves an estimate, developing a schedule, a safety plan and much more. Overall, participating in the competition and attending the expo provided me with so much insight in the industry, enhanced my technical skills and gave me invaluable networking opportunities.”🏗️

Next year, Ethan will be working for Crawford, Murphy, & Tilly (CMT) in their Water Resources Unit.

Congratulations to Ethan, as we wish you well in all of your future endeavors!

We’d like to shine the light on Dominick Albanese, an electrical engineering major and philosophy minor, who is making an impact through innovation, hands-on experience, and a passion for technology.

Through his internship at Digital Design Corporation, Dom worked on a variety of projects, including IoT- enabled devices, voice-activated emergency systems, and machine learning applications.

“One of my key projects involved designing and developing a wearable voice-activated emergency alert device, where I integrated embedded systems with AWS lot Cloud and programmed using C++ and Python. These experiences have strengthened my skills in embedded systems, cloud integration, and real-world engineering applications. With the knowledge I gained from Bradley, driven by continuous learning and innovation, I'm always looking for opportunities to take on new challenges and grow as an engineer.”

We’re proud to see students like Dominick turning their classroom knowledge into real-world innovation and pushing boundaries of technology. Congratulations, Dominick Albanese, we can't wait to see what you accomplish next!

Capstone day is coming Friday, and today we have a little sneak peek into all that has to happen for our Foster College of Business () and Caterpillar College of Engineering students to be ready. 🎉
Here’s a look at our practice presentation event, where each Convergence Capstone team took turns presenting the projects they’ll officially showcase on May 1st. It was a great chance for everyone to gain insight into each project, share feedback, and of course, enjoy some pizza along the way 🍕✨
We’re excited to see all the hard work come together—see you on May 1st for Capstone Day.
