Hey TRIO SSS scholars! It’s Throwback Thursday, and this time we’re celebrating famous TRIO alumni. Viola Davis, and her sister, Deloris, were both participants in Upward Bound at Rhode Island College, where they took acting classes. Davis is one of the few entertainers who has won the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award for her work. She is also a National TRIO Achiever, and encourages everyone to go after their dreams, “What do you want? What do you want your life to be? What do you want your testimony to be? Go for it!” Want to learn more? Check out the link below!

Join us Monday for a special presentation, Owens and Onwards with Special Guest Dr. Benjamin Fry!

The Owens graduate is a behavioral neuroscientist and associate teaching professor at Penn State University.

From dropping out of high school at age 17 and obtaining his GED to graduating from Owens six years later, Dr. Fry will share his journey through academia, with an emphasis on the unique challenges faced by non-traditional and first-generation students. He will discuss how to make the most of an Owens education and beyond, resources to take advantage of, and how to ask for opportunities instead of waiting on them.
