Congratulations to the ten Owens Community College faculty members who received rank promotions for the 2026-27 academic year, approved at the June meeting of the Board of Trustees!

Deborah Sullivan, pictured, was promoted to professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing and Health Professions.

Promoted to associate professor were Dr. Sara Burke (Physical Therapist Assistant Program), Bernard Goedde (Transportation Technologies) and Susan Nichols (Dental Hygiene).

Promoted to assistant professor were Chloe Arredondo (Physical Therapist Assistant), Jodi Gore (Social Work), Thomas Kepler (Diesel), Dr. Maria Reinbolt (Occupational Therapy Assistant), Jennell Twigg (Radiography) and Wendy Zettel (Nursing).

The Board also approved initial tenure contracts in May for six faculty members: Anita Coleman (American Sign Language and ASL Interpreting), Neal Fogle (Transportation Technologies), Jacqueline Heilmann (Nursing), Lesa Swimmer (Biology), Elizabeth Zacharias (Nursing) and Wendy Zettel.

Today marks five years since Dr. Dione D. Somerville became the eighth president in Owens Community College history.

During her tenure, Owens has strengthened student support services, expanded workforce and transfer pathways, opened the renovated Healthcare Education Center, launched its first bachelor’s degree program, and achieved six consecutive semesters of enrollment growth.

“Long before anyone was talking about momentum or growth, Owens was already doing the work, serving students, supporting employers and moving this region forward,” Dr. Somerville said.

From a Findlay-area Campus student headed toward a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant license to a Toledo-area grad inspiring the crowd with their words, this class showed up, worked hard and saw it through.

Owens celebrated the 8 graduates from the Glass City Academy Downtown Campus who completed the Northwest Ohio Pre-Apprenticeship Program! 🙌

The program provided these 8 students the essential skills in machining and prepared them for a career in manufacturing, jump starting their career in the skill trades!

🏆 Big recognition for Owens! 🏆

The Strategic Marketing and Communications team won 10 national 2025 Collegiate Advertising Awards, including five gold awards, competing against colleges and universities across the country. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇

Among the gold winners: the 90-second commercial Alex and Alex: A Transfer Story, produced in collaboration with Madhouse Films, which also aired during the Super Bowl in February. Gold was also awarded to the president's blog, the BSN Billboard Series, the Admissions Enrollment Postcard Series and the Pack the SHAC Basketball T-shirt Design.

Silver awards went to the owens.edu homepage redesign, the Healthcare Education Center grand opening coverage, the Hello Owens logo, the Foundation eNewsletter and OTV Digital Campus graphics.

Since 2023, the team has earned 33 awards total for their work promoting , including 20 Collegiate Advertising national awards. Congratulations to the entire Strategic Marketing and Communications team on this outstanding achievement! 👏

David M. Case III came to the Owens Learning Commons to work on his writing. What he found was something more — confidence he didn't know he was missing. 📝

Writing support is FREE, walk-in and available to students in any major. Sessions have nearly tripled in four years, and tutors are ready to help you at every step of the process.
