We're excited to start something new on our page:

✨ Student Spotlight ✨

Arielle is a freshman in our Caterpillar ThinkBIG program. She is from Kalkaska, Michigan, and has worked for MacAllister Machinery for about a year and a half. She began picking up hours in the shop at the end of her shifts in the parts department, and was encouraged by her boss to come to Owens Community College.

After graduating, Arielle would like to continue working in the shop for a few years before becoming a field technician. She has spent time in the truck and engine shop, but she prefers heavy equipment. She really enjoys the challenge of dozers and skid steers but also appreciates when the jobs are more consistent. In her spare time, Arielle enjoys dirt bikes and horseback riding.

Thank you Owens Community College Workforce & Community Services for coming and talking to our students about the CDL program!

Students in the Caterpillar, John Deere, and Diesel programs now have an opportunity to get their CDL in a format that works around their academic schedule.

Our diesel students worked hard today in brakes! Thankfully, we have some returning students who are willing to lend a hand on these dirty jobs.

Students were really focused during today’s labs! We caught them in action during preventative maintenance and electrical fundamentals.

Bernie put our John Deere students to work right away this semester in DSL101 - Hydraulic Theory.

In this class, students will learn basic maintenance and repair on hydraulic systems. We’ll also cover cylinders, controls, and pumps. During their five semesters here, John Deere students will take 3 classes focused on hydraulics.

Our Freshmen Caterpillar students learned about the Owens Honors Program today!

If students choose to join the program, they are required to:
🎓 Maintain at least a 3.5 GPA
🎓 Volunteer on campus or in their community
🎓 Take a class that encourages critical thinking
🎓 Participate in and lead campus activities
🎓 Create independent study style projects
🎓 Present projects at our annual symposium
