The Dark Cliffy Spot at Stone Valley is a shale rock face overlooking a stream.

Riley, one of Shaver's Creek's environmental interns, took a stroll to Dark Cliffy Spot last November and was met with an abundance of plants suited to this unique environment.

In Riley's blog post "Inspired by Dark Cliffy Spot", you can accompany them on their journey to discover some of the plants that call this habitat home: common liverwort, maidenhair spleenwort, wild columbine. and downy rattlesnake plantain.

Riley chose these four plants because "I felt genuine excitement to learn more about them and to see them for myself."

Dive into wetlands with environmental education intern Riley Lewis 🪷

In Riley's blog post "Inspired by Wetlands", they shed some light on four different wetland plants that shroud the lake at Shaver's Creek. From the abundance of unique wetland plants, Riley chose these four "for my belief in their uniqueness, which demonstrates the rich biodiversity of these areas."

Paired with some wetlands-inspired watercolor and pastel artwork, Riley's blog is a fascinating look at the ways that science and art can blend together to create something truly exciting.

Our first community fishing day was a success! 🎣

Whether you are an experienced angler or just dipping your toes in the water, join us for another community fishing day this Sunday. This time, we're exploring fish folklore. Enjoy the tales, stories, and legends about fish from around the world, followed by a fishing session on Lake Perez!

For Mara Anderson-Skelly, Shaver's Creek has always been a part of her story.

Starting with a kindergarten field trip to her most recent semester as an environmental education intern, Mara has grown up alongside Shaver's Creek. In her own words, "I have so much love for this place where I built foundations for many different chapters of my life."
