The Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and Masonic Jurisdiction Thereunto Belonging is the premier masonic organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is one of the oldest Grand Lodges in the United States, having been established on 26 September 1786 by delegates from the thirteen lodges holding warrants (

or charters) from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, a provincial grand lodge of the Ancients' Grand Lodge of England.

Not many lodges can say they are older than the United States, but Pennsylvania has one: Lodge No. 2, Philadelphia, which is celebrating 268 years!

Brethren gathered for a special meeting at Carpenters' Hall before their anniversary banquet. Benjamin Franklin even attended, thanks to Brother Robert DeVitas, a professional Benjamin Franklin historical interpreter (Ben Franklin Today).

It was a wonderful evening of celebrating 268 years of Lodge No. 2 history and looking forward to the next 268 years - and beyond!

District C lodges had a district visitation to remember with Concordia Lodge #67 F&AM in Ionic Hall at The Masonic Temple in Philadelphia!

Special guests included leadership from two Grand Lodges - Pennsylvania and The Grand Lodge of New Jersey Free & Accepted Masons - with R.W. Grand Master Robert D. Brink delivering a program on the Tun Tavern.

Charitable contributions were also a highlight of the evening. Concordia Lodge No. 67's generous donations toward The Tun Legacy Foundation and Slatington Lodge No. 440's Masonic Community Center project will help both move toward their final goals.

Hosted by Shekinah-Fernwood Lodge No. 246, brethren from West Nashville Phoenix Freemasons' Lodge #131, Grand Lodge of Tennessee, experienced a Masonic "bucket list" moment: conferring a degree in one of The Masonic Temple in Philadelphia's historic lodge rooms.

It was a privilege for those who attended to participate in this special moment with our Tennessee brethren and share the beauty of our lodge halls.

Congratulations to all our members who had milestone service anniversaries this May!

A few notable stories from across the Commonwealth:

R.W. Grand Master Robert D. Brink presented 11 service emblems to Masonic Village at Elizabethtown residents at Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682, F&AM, including one 75-year Diamond Jubilee Award and the 50-year Emblem of Gold for Brother Joseph Murphy, retired CEO of Masonic Villages.

Brother George A. Ingles, P.M., Butler-Victory Lodge No. 272, R.W. Past Grand Master, Grand Lodge of Indiana, 2012-2013 (Indiana Freemasons), received his 50-year Emblem of Gold at the lodge. Most Worshipful Brother Richard J. Elman, P.G.M. and current Grand Secretary, and M.W. Brother Steven A. Bates, Senior Grand Warden (with Brother John McCormick, District Deputy Grand Master, 26th Masonic District of Pennsylvania), joined him for this special moment in his Masonic journey.

Brother Edwin F. Bates, Jr., P.M., W.K. Bray Lodge No. 410, Hatboro, received his 75-year Diamond Jubilee Award - two months after celebrating his 100th birthday(!) - from Brother John P. Sellani, District Deputy Grand Master, PA 8th Masonic District, with Brother Andy Gibbs, W.M., and other members of the lodge attending in support.

For almost 26 years, the replica Civil War cannon outside of Laurel Lodge No. 467 Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, in White Haven, has stood as a monument to the service of veterans past, present and future.

Dedicated by the lodge on Veterans Day in 2000, time and weather had taken their toll on the cannon. The lodge recently repaired the cannon with donations from local businesses and rededicated it this Memorial Day.

Thanks to their work, it will stand another 26 years and beyond, reminding brethren, visitors and the community of all that's been sacrificed for American freedom.

With "The Masonic Mile," Penn Lodge 709, Concordville, raised over $30,000 for the "Help for Our Heroes" program, which provides support to veterans and active-duty military personnel. The funds raised from the family-fun run and walk will allow us to help more individual service members and host more baby showers for military families.

R.W. Grand Master Robert D. Brink will present "The History of the Tun Tavern and The Tun Legacy Foundation." Brother Joshua J. Nay, PM, Lansdowne Lodge No. 711, Past Grand Commander, Knights Templar of Pennsylvania, will present "A Brief History of Knights Templar in Pennsylvania."

R.W. Grand Master Robert D. Brink visited Masonic Villages' Elizabethtown location to speak during the Retirement Living Resident Association meeting. He shared his personal Masonic journey and how his favorite aspects of Freemasonry will always be all the friends he's made around the world and the charitable acts of the fraternity (which include supporting the five Masonic Village locations).

"I think it's important - if you have the opportunity and the ability - to pay that forward," he said. "We have the power to do some really good things, and we do."

Brother Rob also highlighted some of the main initiatives for his term, including the Master Builder program to keep new members engaged, supporting the maintenance of The Masonic Temple in Philadelphia, lodge revitalization efforts, Masonic law updates and The Tun Legacy project. He concluded his visit by spending time with staff and residents.
