Are you interested in journalism, finance, entrepreneurship, sports, or educational innovation?
At this week's edition of DWIP, the guests will be two Penn alumni with something to say about all of those topics and more. RSVP here for an entertaining and educational evening!
Randall Lane is the Editor of Forbes Magazine. His page at Forbes tells us: "This is my second stint at Forbes -- between 1991 and 1997, I was a lowly fact-checker, a Staff Writer (five cover stories), Associate Editor and Washington Bureau Chief. In between, I caught the start-up bug: I co-founded P.O.V. Magazine (Adweek's Startup of the Year), and then launched Doubledown Media (Trader Monthly, Dealmaker, Private Air, etc.). Since college, I have reviewed wine and restaurants for various magazines. I used to think chronicling the world's greatest business minds made me a great entrepreneur, but I now realize that being an entrepreneur made me an acute business journalist. For the full story, check out my book, just out in paperback, The Zeroes: My Misadventure In the Decade Went Insane. I'll throw out business stories you've never seen, counter-intuitive political stories and some great places to eat."
Alan Schwarz is a reporter for the New York Times, who played a central role in breaking the story of chronic traumatic encephalopathy as a danger in sports such as football and ice hockey, and has reported on many other topics as well, from more traditional sports stories to coverage of trends in secondary and college-level education. Maybe we can get him to tell us about the big story he's been working on recently
