LABORING IMAGES: CINEMA, MEDIA, AND EXTRACTION ( FMA 4680 / 5680 ) is a fascinating new Fall '26 class for Temple Students. Wednesdays, 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.
The course explores the hidden labor, infrastructures, technologies, and extractive systems behind film, media, VFX, and AI.
From studio labor and unions to global VFX pipelines, media archaeology, environmental extraction, and automation, this seminar asks critical questions about how images are produced — and what they conceal.
Open to graduate students + advanced undergraduates across film, media, art history, anthropology, geography, political economy, and more.
