Our PMK Spotlight of the week is Olivia Adams! Olivia is on our new executive board as VP of Communications and she is captain of the dance team! Check out what Olivia has to say about being a PMK student and her previous internships! Go Olivia!! 🌟

PILOT: Why did you choose PMK as your major?

Olivia: I chose PMK as my major because of my first year seminar. As an incoming freshmen, I was completely unsure of what I wanted to major in. I thought Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing sounded interesting so I took it as my first year seminar. I ended up loving the class and decided that it would be a good fit for me. I now love my major and know I made the correct choice.

PILOT: Do you have a double major (if so, how does this correspond with PMK)?

Olivia: I do not have a double major, but I have a minor in Spanish. I believe knowing another language is always helpful in business. I will be able to communicate with more people and hopefully help more people understand the benefits of some incredible products in the PMK industry!

PILOT: What internships have you had in the past/currently?

Olivia: I have had two internships in the past. My first internship was with Pfizer on the marketing brand team for Prevnar 13 ® adult. This was an incredible experience where I learned a great deal about big pharma and how they market their products. I also interned with IQVIA (formerly IMS Health and Quintiles IMS). This was another great opportunity where I got to learn about market research and how marketing can turn into opportunities for an organization. I will be starting my 3rd internship with Publicis Touchpoint Solutions this summer as their marketing intern!

PILOT: How do you balance school, work and extra curricular activities?

Olivia: I have a lot of to-do lists. I am the captain of the SJU Dance team, VP of Communications for PILOT, and I had an internship last semester, so I am very busy. I always write down everything I have to do and prioritize the most important things to make sure everything gets done in a timely fashion.

PILOT: Where do you see yourself after graduation? Where would you like to be working/What would you like to be doing?

Olivia: I am not entirely sure where I want to be after college. I have an interest in both market research and sales. I know I like collaborating with others and helping people. I believe both of these paths will allow me to do that, and I am excited to see where my future takes me.

PILOT: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!

Olivia: A fun fact about me is that my 3 siblings and I were all born on a holiday!

Our PMK Spotlight of the week is Stephanie Saggiomo! She is currently on PILOT's executive board as VP of Internal Outreach. Check out what she has to say about her 4 years at SJU as a PMK major! Go Stephanie!! 😊

Q: Why did you choose PMK as your major?

Stephanie: I knew I wanted to do something with marketing because I enjoyed the social aspect of it. When looking into what SJU had to offer, I thought it would be best if I utilized our specialized marketing majors. I’ve always taken a liking to science and the medical field and thought this would be the best direction for me to go. Plus, it feels like I’m indirectly helping people!

Q: Do you have a double major or minor (if so, how does this correspond with PMK)?

Stephanie: I have a minor in Italian. It doesn’t directly respond with PMK but I’ve recently learned that the European Institute of Oncology is located in Milan, so maybe I’ll get to go there some day!

Q: What internships have you had in the past/currently?

Stephanie: As a sophomore I interned at the National MS Society, which is an advocacy group, and it was super interesting to learn about the organization and industry from their perspective. Now, I’m interning with IQVIA and I’m really enjoying my experience in healthcare research.

Q: How do you balance school, work and extra curricular activities?

Stephanie: I couldn’t live without my planner. It keeps me organized with what I have to do daily. I also begin assignments in advance, especially when I know I have an event to attend that week.

Q: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!

Stephanie: I’ve done theater in the past and can sing/act!

Our PMK Spotlight of the week is Nina Cavallaro! On campus, Nina is involved in Phi Sigma Pi, SJU Spring Concert, and weekly service. Check out what Nina has to say about being involved within the PMK department. Go Nina!!! 😊

Q: Why did you pick PMK as a major?

Nina: Being a College of Arts & Sciences student, I have always viewed healthcare from a medical, science, and epidemiology background. However, PMK is a valuable minor or major, as it provides insight into the marketing, advertising and sales side of healthcare. Choosing PMK as a minor allows me to pursue a career that helps promote healthy lives through tying these two disciplines of education together.

Q: Do you have a double major or minor (and how does it go with PMK)?

Nina: I pursued an IHS major because of my passion for health and wellness, and the PMK minor teaches me how to promote health through marketing, strategy, branding and advertising. The major and minor work hand in hand, because IHS teaches about healthcare from the provider side while PMK is based upon the distributor perspective! And with a Health Care Ethics minor, I am able to delve into healthcare from a unique medical, business and ethical standpoint.

Q: What other activities are you involved in on campus?

Nina: Here on campus, I am on the executive board of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, I write as a campaign author for the Medical Alumni Committee, and I am the Head of Hospitality for SJU Spring Concert Committee! As well, I am involved in APEX, weekly service, and work study!

Q: How do you balance school and other extracurricular activities (such as work or clubs)?

Nina: As everyone operates differently, I have learned that you have to seek balance in a way that works best for you! I try to organize my time in a meaningful way, and prioritize what is most important to come first. What is most important varies for each of us, so once you can determine what makes a difference in your life, invest your energy there.

Q: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!

Nina: I have my black belt in Taekwondo. :-)

Our PMK Spotlight of the week is junior, Evan Buchanan! On campus, Evan is an orientation leader and we are excited to congratulate him on his internship this summer at C.H. Robinson!! Check out Evan's insights on the PMK major and how he balances his time at SJU. Way to go, Evan!! 😊

Q: Why did you pick PMK as a major?

Evan: I have always been a people-person and someone who doesn’t want to sit in a cubicle and type. So, I always knew I wanted to be a marketing major. The pharmaceutical part comes from wanting to be a part of an industry that we will always have need for, while also helping those who need it.

Q: Do you have a double major or minor?

Evan: No, I do not.

Q: What other activities are you involved in on campus?

Evan: I’m a part of the Saint Joseph’s University Orientation Team.

Q: How do you balance school and other extracurricular activities (such as work or clubs)?

Evan: I think that a big part of balancing everything is time management. If you know when everything is due, it makes life easier. Utilizing my free time allows me to always have a schedule and be productive.

Q: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!

Evan: I just accepted an internship at a 3rd Party Logistics company called C.H. Robinson. Even though it does not fall into the PMK spectrum, I will be learning skills such as sales and client relationships which will be easily transferable into the PMK world.

Our PMK spotlight of the week is Gavin Shaw! Gavin is a sophomore PMK major and a brother of Pi Kappa Phi. Gavin always wanted to go into the healthcare industry and luckily PMK was the perfect fit for him. Read below to see what Gavin has to say about the major and other facts about him! Congrats, Gavin!! 😊

Q: Why did you pick PMK as a major?

Gavin: I chose PMK as a major because I always had an interest in the health field, but I knew I wanted to go into marketing, which I felt like PMK had a good combination of the two. So, I took a PMK course with Dr. Trombetta to gauge my interest and I've loved it since.

Q: Do you have a double major or minor (and how does it go with PMK)?

Gavin: I do not currently have a second major or minor, however, I am strongly considering minoring in business intelligence, as I believe combining a strong skill set in data analysis and marketing skills would only help my chances of landing a job in the industry.

Q: What other activities are you involved in on campus?

Gavin: I am currently involved in Pi Kappa Phi, and I am hoping to join one of the business fraternities in the near future.

Q: How do you balance school and other extracurricular activities (such as work or clubs)?

Gavin: Balance is something that I struggled with in high school so I knew I had to change going into college. When I'm given an assignment, I try to finish it as soon as I possibly can to free up time to dedicate to other activities that I enjoy. Also, if I'm given a massive project, I try to break it down into a collection of smaller assignments so that I don't feel overwhelmed when I am given the assignment.

Q: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!
Gavin: A fun fact that no one knows about me is that I have been to Europe.

Our PMK spotlight of the week is Bethany Zaccaria!! Bethany is super involved on campus in activities such as Alpha Kappa Psi, one of the professional business fraternities on campus, Phi Sigma Sigma, and more!! Bethany took the time to share with us why she picked PMK and to talk about her SJU experience. Go Bethany 😊😊

Q: Why did you pick PMK as a major?
Bethany: I picked PMK as a major because I have always had an interest in the advancement of healthcare, but I knew being a doctor wasn't for me. I decided to combine my creative side with business/healthcare and become a pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing major in order to promote products and ideas that will benefit millions of individuals. I see being a PMK major as an opportunity to advance wellness and help people live better and healthier lives.

Q: Do you have a double major or minor (and how does it go with PMK)?
Bethany: I have a minor in photography and in my own opinion it goes hand in hand with PMK. In order to properly reach a target market, creativity is needed. Photography has given me a creative outlook that I can use when having to market, advertise and promote. Further, I can use my skills within photography to help create advertisements having to do with pharmaceuticals.

Q: What other activities are you involved in on campus?
Bethany: I'm a member of Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity, a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, social chair of university singers, on the marketing team for spring concert committee and I'm involved in APEX!

Q: How do you balance school and other extracurricular activities (such as work or clubs)?
Bethany: I balance my work by prioritizing. I make sure I do what's most important first. I also make sure that the time in the day I do have to do my homework is spent well, with my full focus.

Q: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!
Bethany: I pierced my own nose!

Our PMK Spotlight of the week is sophomore, Bailey Ramirez! Aside from being a member of PILOT, Bailey is very active on campus with leadership roles in the University Student Senate, Lambda Chi Alpha, and the Dance Marathon. Read below to see what else Bailey has to say about SJU and why he picked PMK as his major!! Go Bailey!!

Q: Why did you pick PMK as a major?
Bailey: I picked PMK as my major because I took Global Healthcare as my freshmen seminar with Dr. Trombetta and he introduced me to the major. I was planning on switching to Marketing as my major, but that class opened my eyes to what is PMK, and I have been enjoying it since.

Q: Do you have a double major or minor (and how does it go with PMK)?
Bailey: I currently do not have another major or minor to go along with PMK, but I am hoping to minor in LEO. I think this goes well with PMK and the mission of PILOT because this minor will teach and challenge me to do more than the task at hand. I believe this minor will push me to become an ethical leader in the industry, rather than just another employee.

Q: What other activities are you involved in on campus?
Bailey: I am currently serving as the Secretary of Mission for the University Student Senate, President of Lambda Chi Alpha, and the Director of Recruitment for Dance Marathon.

Q: How do you balance school and other extracurricular activities (such as work or clubs)?
Bailey: Balance is constantly a challenge, but I keep the mindset of school first. I challenge myself to be the best leader I can be, but I do not let myself do too much without making sure my academic work is handled first. I try to spend as much time as I can on campus throughout the week, especially in the libarary, to keep a constant focus on all I need to accomplish.

Q: What's a fun fact or something no one knows about you?!
Bailey: My name was inspired by Bailey's Irish Creme, but I am 0% Irish.
