Late Tyler alum John Beadle (MFA '94) has been featured in a standout Bahamas Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale.
"In Another Man’s Yard: John Beadle, Lavar Munroe, and the Spirit of (Posthumous) Collaboration", curated by Dr. Krista Thompson, is on view now until November 22, 2026, as part of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
The exhibition has been recognized as one of the Biennale’s standout national presentations, bringing the vibrant traditions of Junkanoo and Bahamian cultural memory to an international audience.
John Beadle was a painter, sculptor, and lifelong Junkanooer born in Nassau to Jamaican-Bahamian parents. His work combined traditional techniques with the found materials of Junkanoo (including cardboard, wood, and salvaged objects) to create relief monuments and striking sculptural works.
One of Beadle's works on display, "Mobile Housing Scheme," reflects on movement and migration. The original work, created in 2020, was lost to termite damage. Its re-creation was made possible by Tyler School of Art and Architecture with the support of another alum, Amanda Crain-Freeland (MFA '25) and artist John Cox.
