The College of Education and Human Development at Temple University is situated in the heart of North Philadelphia with city schools, student and teacher populations at our doorstep. Our prominent location brings us all the resources and challenges of a large, diverse and lively urban center. By pursuing our mission, to empower children and their communities through education, we serve our surroun

ding neighborhoods, the city of Philadelphia, schools and school districts across the region and the nation. On our sprawling urban campus, in our surrounding neighborhood schools and across the city, we educate teachers and school leaders who have the knowledge and skills to reach all of our children. Driven by the most current research and our extensive database of best practices, we create new models of teaching and learning that enable our graduates to succeed and lead the movement to improve educational achievement nationwide. Our graduates are problem-solvers, innovators and creative thinkers. They debate ideas in the abstract, but apply them in practical ways to address the concrete situations that challenge educators daily. The College of Education and Human Development is committed to education for the long term, to life-long learning, to using the newest tools to prepare students not only for the present but for a rapidly expanding and complex world. Our faculty provides the foundation of research and knowledge our students and supervisors in the field require to address the needs of children and schools today. Their insight and the new information they generate informs decision making at the highest level and provides educators and school personnel with the tools they need to strengthen educational practice. When you’re Temple Made, your ability to succeed and help others succeed is limited only by your imagination. Our students prove this every day, as they make their journey from the classroom into the professional world of teaching, research, and service. Our students know they can make a difference in the real world because they get access to resources and knowledge that gives them a leg up.

This week’s Temple Future Scholars Welcome Celebration for Cohort 2 was filled with joy, pride and community as we officially welcomed a new group of scholars and families into the program.

Temple Future Scholars is a college pipeline program created through a partnership between the School District of Philadelphia, Heights Philadelphia and Temple University to support low-income, first-generation-to-college students from Philadelphia public schools. Beginning in middle school, students receive year-round academic support, mentorship, college and career readiness programming, and opportunities to envision themselves on a path to higher education.

As these students begin their journey, with Owl Camp starting July 6 on Temple’s campus, it was inspiring to see them surrounded by families, mentors and supporters already cheering them on every step of the way.

Temple University's College of Education and Human Development is proud to be part of this work and excited to welcome Cohort 2. We look forward to all they will accomplish in the years ahead. Welcome, again, to the Owl’s Nest, scholars!
