My name is Emilee, and I am so happy to introduce myself as your new College of Health Solutions alumni coordinator!

I am a native to the Southwest and a lover of the sun, having been born and raised in Phoenix. Before pledging my allegiance to Sparky, I studied psychology at the University of Arizona, so I am no stranger to the desert. I love a good sunset, iced tea, starry skies away from city lights, pilates and live music.

I have spent nearly two years at ASU championing higher education initiatives, so I cannot wait to see what I can bring to life for your alumni community.

I will be in touch to share upcoming alumni events, resources and more. I am looking forward to celebrating your College of Health Solutions story, hearing what you might need from me and seeing how we can join forces to give 'em health, Devils!

What if your productivity isn’t supposed to be constant?

In her recent article in The Conversation US, behavioral scientist Masha Remskar, a postdoctoral scholar at ASU’s College of Health Solutions, explains how our ability to manage stress and perform at our best can shift with the seasons and our biological clocks.

She says that’s not a flaw to fix but a rhythm to work with.

Read about her science-backed perspective on why we shouldn’t expect ourselves to maintain the same level of productivity year-round. ⤵️

You can build resilience that will work with the changing rhythms in your life.

After recognizing a gap in pre-health student support, College of Health Solutions students Brooke Keith and Parmis Keyhanzad set out to create a system that not only worked for them, but for other students as well.

This fall, they launched Bridge Health, a platform that helps pre-health students navigate ASU’s many resources while implementing firsthand experience and insight to support students through their academic journey. Eventually, they’d like to expand the program to all ASU students.

“Our long-term goal is exactly why we created it: to make sure that students are being informed and they don't have the stress that we did,” Parmis says.

At the College of Health Solutions, learning doesn't always take place in a classroom. This academic year, our students have multiple opportunities to explore health, culture and communities firsthand through faculty-led study abroad experiences. ✈️ 🌎

First, students will examine food and health systems, agriculture and global trade through the lens of nutrition with "Portugal: Harvest to Health," led by registered dietitians and nutrition Clinical Professors Kathy Dixon and Christina Shepard. It's the perfect trip for those interested in the dynamic relationship between food, history and health.

Then over spring break, students will combine community service, hands-on learning and cultural experiences with "Puerto Rico: 'Al garete' no more! Wellbeing and social determinants of health." This program will be led by faculty in our healthy lifestyles and fitness science program: Teaching Professor Karen Gregory-Mercado, who was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and Assistant Teaching Professor Blanca Quezada, who is also a native Spanish speaker.
