New York University is hosting the 2nd annual CoNNexINS symposium for grad students!

CoNNExINS (Colloquium at NYU for Networking: Extramural for Invited Neuroscience Students) is a new symposium giving advanced graduate students the opportunity to give formal seminars to the NYU Neuroscience Community. The experience will be a valuable opportunity to share their research and receive feedback from NYU faculty, postdocs, and students while connecting with potential laboratories for a postdoctoral position. Our goal through this series is to increase diversity in our postdoctoral trainee group through the active recruitment of those who belong to underrepresented minority groups. Looking forward, we believe new postdocs will benefit from our unique training environment that provides a collaborative research environment, a diverse and collegial community, and a commitment to long-term career development and mentorship.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to apply. Underrepresented groups include Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Alaska Native. First-generation college students, LGBTQIA+ students, students with a documented disability, and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

NYU will pay speakers an honorarium and cover all travel expenses.

THINKING ABOUT APPLYING TO GRADUATE SCHOOL?
Check out the Científico Latino Graduate School Mentorship Initiative (GSMI) at https://www.cientificolatino.com/gsmi!

Científico Latino is an online STEM platform for all underrepresented students and is currently looking to help underrepresented undergraduate and post-bac students with graduate school applications

The Científico Latino GSMI provides one-on-one guided mentorship for all STEM doctoral program applicants. This mentorship program aims to help underrepresented students in the sciences by making STEM resources easily available to everyone. Because graduate school applications can be particular to each field, there is often not a lot of support for students to learn how to make their application polished for graduate school. The Científico Latino GSMI have a team of STEM professionals who have volunteered across several STEM disciplines who will review graduate school applications and do mock interviews for those who are applying to graduate school this Fall 2021. Last year, 80% of their applicants received acceptances into STEM graduate school programs!

Please visit cientificolatino.com/gsmi if you are interested in participating in this program as an applicant or a volunteer mentor. They welcome students at all stages of the application process.
Feel free to reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions!

Need mentoring advice sooner?!Checkout their webinar series from last year at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcgQzhdM9E8b1ivdqgwTNIA

GSMI offers webinars covering the basics of applying to graduate school all the way to the details of applying to specific fellowships!

Científico Latino also aims to help undergraduate, graduate, and professional students by providing mentorship, open-access resources on scholarships, fellowships, and blog posts on professional development. Visit their website (https://www.cientificolatino.com) now to learn about all of their excellent opportunities!
