Rutgers South Asian Studies Program

Rutgers South Asian Studies Program The Rutgers South Asian Studies Program seeks to promote the study of the countries of South Asia through academic and cultural events.

From musical performances, to film screenings, to lectures, SASP is the place for staying linked with South Asia @ RU! The South Asian Studies Program at Rutgers was formed by an interdisciplinary group of faculty in 2003. SASP hosts a minor in South Asian Studies, with more than 70 possible courses on South Asia available to fulfill the degree requirements. SASP's mission is to promote the study

and understanding of Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet, as well as the bordering nations of Afghanistan and Myanmar (Burma) by hosting academic and cultural events, and providing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty, to study, learn about and research these countries. SASP also houses the RU India Initiative and Burma Initiative, cross-school endeavors to increase Rutgers' presence in India and Burma, and the visibility of India and Burma at Rutgers, through research support and inter-disciplinary events. SASP also runs an annual undergraduate student paper award and a competition two summer research/travel fellowships. Details are available on our webpage: southasia.rutgers.edu
