The events of the past few weeks in the U.S. have called on each and every one of us to make a choice. In the face of racism, fascism, and anti-blackness, there is no middle ground. We condemn the violent police ex*****on of George Floyd. The CDRI Board supports and, like many of you in our community, we know that our freedom is intrinsically tied to the freedom of all oppressed peoples; no one is free until black people are free.
George Floyd’s murder is one of countless horrific, widespread, preventable crimes perpetuated by the police. Racism is a public health emergency and, beyond that, it is a moral imperative to be anti-racist. We must change the circumstances. We must make it unacceptable to be racist.

Again, this is by no means all there is to do, but it is the first of many steps towards justice.
The CMU community is diverse and dedicated to a better future. It is time to put our heart in the real work. We call on our fellow campus groups to publicly support and we stand proudly with those who have and continue to fight against fascism, police brutality, and racism. Without justice, there is no peace.
