We are delighted to announce the appointment of Vijay Yechoor, MD as Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS). Dr. Yechoor is a Professor of Medicine, the Director of the Diabetes and Beta Cell Biology Center, and holds the Endowed Chair in Diabetes at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been serving as Acting Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at VAPHS since June 2025.

Dr. Yechoor has over two decades of clinical experience in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and metabolic disorders. He earned his medical degree at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and endocrinology fellowship at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School. He was recruited to the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, and VAPHS in 2017. Dr. Yechoor's long-standing research program, funded by the National Institutes of Health, Veterans Administration, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and American Diabetes Association, focuses on understanding diabetes pathogenesis and developing targeted therapies for enhancing beta cell mass and function. He currently leads an NIH-funded study on understanding circadian clock regulation of cardiometabolic diseases and a VA-funded study on pancreatic beta cell proliferation and quiescence.

Event Schedule
8:30 a.m. – Event Begins

Walk Route
Enjoy a casual, accessible one-mile walk from Center Field Gate to the Riverfront Trail, via the Retired Numbers Path next to the Roberto Clemente Bridge. The walk will leave PNC Park, headed towards Heinz Lofts and return.

Venue Information
The event will start at 8:30 a.m. inside PNC Park, along the Highmark Riverwalk. Enter the Highmark Riverwalk at the Center Field Gate at 115 Federal Street, near the Clemente Bridge. The walk itself will be a casual, accessible one-mile walk along the Riverfront Trail.
Parking is available at either the North Shore or Downtown:
• For parking on North Shore: Red 5 Garage – West General Robinson. Address is 664 W General Robinson St, Pittsburgh, 15212. The garage entrance is on General Robinson Street. It is a 9 minute walk from the parking garage to PNC Park. After parking, walk from the garage down General Robinson Street to Federal Street, then follow Federal Street to PNC Park's Center Field Gate. $5 rate from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.; credit card only.
• For parking Downtown: Fort Duquesne and Sixth Street Garage. Address is 126 6th St, Pittsburgh, 15222. The garage entrance is between Ft. Duquesne Boulevard and Sixth Street. It is a 6 minute walk from the parking garage to PNC Park. After parking, walk from garage across Clemente Bridge (formerly the Sixth Street Bridge) to PNC Park's Center Field Gate. The all-day Saturday rate is $8.
