Carnegie Mellon University, School of Design The School of Design offers exciting new programs that respond to significant changes in design disc

At Carnegie Mellon’s School of Design, we believe that design is a humanistic discipline that involves initiating, planning, and shaping products, communications, ideas, and services within continually changing social, environmental, and economic landscapes. We look to living systems to help fashion a responsible approach that values the quality of human life in balance with a healthy and sustaina

ble planet. Our process employs human-centered methods that synthesize traditional approaches with technological innovations to meet human needs. The School of Design prepares students to become catalysts for innovation and social change by drawing from the interdisciplinary strengths of the liberal arts and the scientific and creative disciplines, and facilitating transdisciplinary collaborative problem solving.

After almost 50 years, countless classes, and having taught legion of thankful students, our own Steve Stadelmeier is retiring from the School of Design. Summing up Steve's legacy is an impossible task, so we all got together for a party, laid out a mere sampling of some of Steve's treasures/curiosities and brought our bicycles for one of the most well-deserved victory laps CMU's campus has ever seen.

Congratulations, Steve!

Last week, during , students gathered for their Object-Based Histories class at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
