Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University is a laboratory for atyp

The STUDIO’s mission is to support atypical, anti-disciplinary, and inter-institutional research projects at the intersections of arts, sciences, technology and culture. We specialize in supporting emerging artists who create and adapt new technologies, in fields such as computation arts, interactive installation, visualization, mechatronic sculpture, biological art, network culture, critical soft

ware, and tactical media. To such researchers, the STUDIO provides direct financial, administrative, and logistical support. The STUDIO also serves as a “meta-laboratory” – a portal to the larger university context through which artists can connect to a wide array of experts and facilities.

Join us in the STUDIO on Tuesday April 1st at 5:30 PM for an artist lecture by Kyle McDonald!
They told us that making art is easy now, anyone can be creative. The machine ate our work, and they don’t need us anymore. Is it all AI slop from here on out? Kyle will give a brief history of how we got here, followed by examples of alternative approaches to using AI, beyond making more pictures of Donald Trump and Elon Musk making out on top of a bloodied planet.

This event is made possible with the support of the 2024-2025 Sylvia and David Steiner Speaker Series, CoDeLab, CMU School of Architecture, and the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry.

Join us for a lecture by Chatpong Chuenrudeemol “(re)defining the pedigree of design” on Monday March 17th at 5:30 PM in the STUDIO!

https://studioforcreativeinquiry.org/events/chatpong-chuenrudeemol-lecture-redefining-the-pedigree-of-design

Chatpong Chuenrudeemol (Chat Architects) joins us to challenge current discourse in the realms of (re)presentation, community engagement and empowerment, and construction techniques. What if our hands understand the weight of labor and sweat to construct our buildings? What if the language of construction is not through line weights and elegance, but the hard sound of hammer under the summer sun? What if the manifestation of our designs weren’t of walls, floors, and windows, but of rituals, dances, and ancestors?

This event is brought to us by Carnegie Mellon Architecture.
