Our nursing students had the experience of a lifetime studying abroad in Italy this May! ✨

During their time overseas, they explored firsthand how culture and healthcare intersect, gaining valuable global perspectives that will help shape their future careers as nurses. We hope the lessons, connections, and memories they made abroad will stay with them throughout their professional journeys and beyond!

This Memorial Day, our Maymester nursing students experienced an emotional moment of reflection and gratitude while visiting the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial. They were joined by Duquesne University President-Elect, Dr. David Dausey, and United States Ambassador to Italy, Tilman Fertitta, to honor the brave individuals who gave their lives during World War II.

Before visiting, our nursing students partnered with adult learners from a local Italian high school on a research project, uncovering the stories of nine nurse veterans who lost their lives during The Battle of Anzio. They where able to locate each nurse's resting place and read a handwritten letter in tribute to their courage and sacrifice.

This experience brought history to light in a personal way for our nursing students. It allowed them to connect with the fallen nurses, but also with the shared global impact of service and compassion. They were reminded that nursing goes beyond clinical skills- but is a calling to serve, even in the most challenging moments.

Duquesne University Nursing: Rome edition✨

Our nursing students are continuing their Maymester abroad, but now studying in the heart of Italy. They're spending time at Tor Vergata Hospital, participating in lectures, completing clinical observations, and engaging in cross-cultural learning.

Exposure to global healthcare like this not only broadens perspectives, but creates unforgettable experiences that can shape future practice!

You're invited to submit an abstract for the 17th Annual McGinley-Rice Symposium on Justice for Vulnerable Populations!

This year, the symposium will focus on "The Face of the Person Who Has Experienced Disaster". Some requirements for submitting an abstract include:

- They must be submitted online by August 18, 2026.
- The word limit is 250 words.
- They will be blinded for peer review.
- The lead author/presenter will be notified of the decision of the Review Committee on a rolling basis and must confirm participation.
- All presenters are required to be paid registrants of the conference.
