Congratulations to Keila Grinberg! 🎉

Her Bracuí Community Engagement Partnership has been recognized with a Partnership of Distinction award — an honor celebrating outstanding examples of community engagement.

For more than 20 years, the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at Pitt Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh has worked closely with the Quilombo of Bracuí, a community of descendants of enslaved Africans in Rio de Janeiro. This long-standing partnership is truly collaborative: community members help shape research priorities, contribute to archaeological work, and guide efforts that directly support their goals.

This collaboration has already played a key role in the community’s successful pursuit of official quilombo recognition and continues to advance land rights and reparations initiatives.

Global learning doesn't stop at the edge of campus.

Every year, Pitt Global partners with K-12 educators, students, and community members across the region to bring global perspectives into classrooms and neighborhoods throughout Western Pennsylvania.

From educator-focused initiatives like the European Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh Brussels Study Tour, where K-12 educators from across the United States travel to Belgium and return with tools to teach about the European Uninon, to immersive students like PA Governor's School for Global Studies, Pitt Global programs support global learning at every stage.

Community-facing programs also play a key role. Flm festivals from various centers, including Screenshot: Asia and festivals like the Caribbean and Latin American Festival and Celebrate Africa celebrate culture, history, and shared heritage.

These programs - and many more - reflect Pitt Global's commitment to community-engaged global learning.

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, join us for a unique podcast concert and conversation featuring an episode created by Pitt students under the mentorship of former NPR host David Greene and Pitt faculty Sean Guillory (host of The Eurasian Knot) and Shannon Reed.

Hear from Haifa Subay and Oleksandr Frazé Frazénko, scholars from the Pittsburgh Network for Threatened Scholars (PiNTS).

The episode highlights PiNTS scholars, a Global Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh initiative that supports displaced and at-risk academics in continuing their research and teaching right here at Pitt.

This event is more than a performance. It's a celebration of student innovation, global collaboration, and the power of storytelling to connect communities.

We’re proud to have Delo leading the way at Pitt Global! 🌍

Today at the NAFSA Bi-regional Conference, Delo Blough (Director of OIS) was honored with the inaugural Delo Blough Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Education!  This is an amazing recognition of the time Delo has spent serving not only different international communities, but leading educators and NAFSA itself in our region.  This is a a simple award to reward decades of extraordinary work and leadership.  Congratulations, Delo!
