Association for the Rhetoric of Science, Technology, and Medicine

Association for the Rhetoric of Science, Technology, and Medicine ARSTM promotes the study of the rhetoric of science, technology, and medicine.

ARST also hosts day-long conferences in conjunction with the annual meetings of the National Communication Association (NCA) and the Rhetoric of America Society (RSA). Hello, book authors and book lovers everywhere! 📚📖📔

Want your book, or a book you’re a fan of, to be a part of the fourth Annual Book Café at the upcoming NCA convention?

Well, now’s your chance! 😊 If:

1. You published a book related to ARSTM since last year’s NCA, OR

2. You wrote a book that will be published this year that should be included, OR

3. You didn’t even write a book yourself but know of one (or more!) that fits the bill,

then please email a link to the book’s publisher page before March 21 to [email protected] and [email protected] for consideration in the proposal for this year’s Café. 📨

The Café celebrates new, scholarly monographs related to science, tech, the environment, engineering, and medicine/health. If that sounds like a book you have in mind, please send it our way!

Last year’s Book Café was a great success. Let's celebrate even more of your awesome scholarship this year! 🎉

Pre-Conference Theme: Impact
Abstracts Due: 11/15/25
Decisions Released: 1/3/26
Pre-Conference Date: 5/20/26

Rhetoricians of science, technology, and medicine provide valuable insights that enrich our understandings of impact, including how impact intersects with concepts like kairos, megethos, telos, and more. Following the RSA conference theme of Rhetorical In/Dignities, we invite submissions exploring how scholars can expand understandings of impact to address in/dignities existing in the academy and in society.

While submissions may cover any ARSTM topic area, priority will be given to those related to the pre-conference theme.

To submit, email anonymized materials to [email protected] by 11/15/25. Use “ARSTM Preconference Submission” as the subject and include your contact information (and that of any co-authors) in the body of the email.
