If 40,000 students applied to Harvard last year, and 2000 were admitted, and the average SAT range was 1480-1580, how many of the applicants with scores in that range were NOT admitted? Not a trick question. The Answer: MOST! Say what? Who gets admitted then? Those who, beginning on 9th grade start and lead extraordinary community groups with colossal impact, and compete and win academic competitions (some of which are even low-hanging fruit). If you are considering any of the small, elite privates (and not just the Ivies, but those like Villanova, Vanderbilt, Duke, and Rice), it is imperative that you start in 9th grade with a strategic plan to engage in phenomenal extracurriculars ALONGSIDE both a near-perfect GPA and SAT. But is it even imperative that you attend one of these schools in the first place? Nope! Whether you are dreaming of Duke or Depaul, Tulane or Trade School, there is a right fit for everyone.
