Duquesne University's ABET-accredited Biomedical Engineering program provides a rigorous education grounded in mathematics, science, engineering and the liberal arts. Through hands-on research experiences and fully equipped laboratories, students work alongside faculty while gaining experience with cutting-edge tools and technologies in biomedical optics, imaging, microdevices and computational biofluid dynamics.

Dr. Don Very is the Director of Duquesne’s Master’s Program in Biotechnology and a leader with more than 30 years of experience in diagnostics, clinical laboratories and pharmaceutical assay development.

Throughout his career, Dr. Very has held executive and research leadership positions across the biotechnology industry, including as Founder and CEO of Naviter Bioanalytics and in leadership roles at Helomics Corporation, Ancera, Inc. and The Institute for Bioanalytics. He has also served as a Senior Research Scientist at Bayer Diagnostics and supervised high-level biomedical research laboratories for the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit in the Republic of Korea.

Dr. Very’s expertise spans cancer biology and immunology, autoimmunity, personalized medicine in oncology and the development and validation of quantitative analytical methods for biomarkers. His industry experience brings valuable real-world perspective to the classroom, helping students develop the scientific knowledge and professional insight needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving biotechnology industry.

Dr. Neil Campbell is a faculty member in Duquesne’s Biotechnology program and an accomplished leader in the biotechnology, healthcare and life sciences industries.

With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Campbell has researched, developed and commercialized more than 275 products and services throughout his career. He has held leadership roles across biotechnology, personalized healthcare, diagnostics, medical devices, artificial intelligence and health technology.

Dr. Campbell currently serves as President and CEO of Humanetix, Inc. and Executive Chairman of Mosaigen and RespaRx. Throughout his career, he has founded and led innovative companies, including Celios, Helomics and SuperNova Diagnostics, and has held senior executive positions with organizations including Roche, Abbott Laboratories, Celera Genomics and Life Technologies.

Bringing decades of real-world industry experience into the classroom, Dr. Campbell helps prepare the next generation of biotechnology professionals to lead, innovate and make an impact. At Duquesne, you’ll learn from faculty who have helped shape the future of science and technology.
