CMU Veritas Forum

CMU Veritas Forum The official page for Carnegie Mellon University's Veritas Forum! The Meaning of WORK, the Universe, and Everything

Why do we work so hard at CMU?

Are there things in life that hard work can’t get you? How do our worldviews shape the way we work? In our first annual Veritas Forum, we’re getting the campus community together to explore the meaning and purpose of work. Beginning with a living-room style discussion between four CMU professors with agnostic, Christian, and humanist worldviews, followed by audience Q & A, and then finishing up wi

th mixed student and faculty discussion tables, we’re in for a thought-provoking evening of honest and open conversation about some of life’s most difficult questions. A free event sponsored in part by Student Senate and your student activity fee. WHEN: Saturday, February 25 at 7pm (doors open at 6:45pm)
WHERE: Rangos Ballroom
WHO: Emcee-d by Johanna Soderlund (BHA ’12); Panel Discussion with CMU Professors David Kosbie (Computer Science), Marie Norman (Anthropology), and Mike Smith (Information Systems); moderated by Paul Johnston (Music History).

Here are the details from OM:

OMx is a speaker-driven experience that offers a holistic perspective on
the concept of happiness. Driven by an authentic narrative that delivers
tangible takeaways, OMx is a reprieve from the daily grind. Come explore
the underlying assumption of your life. We've invited speakers from around
the U.S., including a professor from Washington University in St. Louis
Tim Bono, Ex-Vice Provost of CMU, Indira Nair, a Deepak Chopra certified
instructor Patty Eppley, nationally ranked Bharatnatyam group Pitt
Nrityamala, and Housefellow of Morewood at CMU Helen Wang to come speak
about happiness.

In particular, we explore the questions of what is happiness, how we can
achieve it, and how you tangibly can pursue it in your lives after the
event has concluded. What we are doing with OMx is trying to create an
experience where people are able to escape their daily routines and
explore happiness.
