2026 Driverless at Formula Hybrid + Electric

We are happy to share that Carnegie Mellon Racing showcased our 2026 competition vehicle, 26x, completing multiple fully driverless laps with track elements at Formula Hybrid + Electric last week! This marks the first time in CMR history that a single vehicle competed both driven and driverless at the same competition.

For the past four years, CMR has been retrofitting previous competition cars for driverless. This year, we built our competition vehicle with driverless integrated from the ground up. This has been the dream since day one, and we are endlessly grateful to the alumni, sponsors, and everyone who poured countless hours over the past few years into making this a reality.

Next up: Competing in the first Driverless + Electric class at FSAE Michigan in June. See you there!

This Saturday, Carnegie Mellon Racing unveiled its 2026 competition vehicle, 26x. 26x marks a massive architectural change for the team: a fully integrated car capable of both autonomous operation and driver-controlled performance. This shift represents a significant leap forward across all major systems, bringing together years of development into a single, cohesive design.

Built through thousands of hours of dedication, this car is a testament to the hard work and ability of all the members who made it possible. We’re incredibly proud of what’s been accomplished and excited to bring this car to competition. A sincere thank you to our sponsors, members, alumni and parents for making this possible.
