We are a unique, international, low-residency MFA in Creative Writing Program with concentrations in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction.

Good news! Carlo Gebler’s new memoir about his mother, No One Tells You: The Last Years of Edna O’Brien will be published this week on September 11 and was featured in Saturday’s Irish Times. In Saturday’s article, The Irish Times said of the book, “It is a sad, beautiful and wise meditation on ageing, grief and death, as well as a portrait of his late mother, one of Ireland’s great writers.”

In today's wonderful MFA news, current manuscript student Faith Otey, Faith Otey Sings , has been featured in this season's issue of Wandering Lights. Her poem 'Syntax in the Key of E(mpty)' is one of many incredible pieces she has worked on throughout her MFA journey, and one that we're thrilled to see in print!

Another day of incredible MFA news! The wonderful poet Anna Gaul's collection 'Unnameable', translated by MFA Alum AKaiser, AKaiser, has been long listed for the National Translation Award for Poetry in Translation!

Wonderful MFA news! Carlow University Fiction Alum Hannah Kennedy, Hannah Kennedy has her latest short story collection, Land of Lost Places, available now for order!

Hannah's book is a collection of short stories set in Pennsylvania. It follows stories of people and places that are forgotten, overlooked, and left behind.

Great news today, Wag the Dog, an anthology of political poems edited by MFA Alums Deena November Deena November and Nina Padolf Nina Padolf is available for pre-order.

The price is discounted until September 15th, and set to release November 3rd. The anthology features several Carlow MFA Alums, as well as Carlow Madwomen, and former MFA director Jan Beatty.

Exciting news this week, as MFA Alum Valerie Bacharach has two poems featured in today's issue of Vox Populi online.

Good news! The fifth installment in the Rose Metal Press’s popular Field Guide series, The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Writing the Lyric Essay, co-edited by our brilliant MFA mentor Lee Horikoshi Roripaugh and Heidi Czerwiec is now available for pre-order and will be released in October 2026.

The book includes essays from writers who have joined our MFA residencies including Kimiko Hahn, Aimee Nezhukumatatahil, and Brian Turner.
