Incredible collaborative work is happening in Mozambique through the Gorongosa Restoration Project (GRP)! 🐘🌍

In partnership between the Carr Foundation and the Government of Mozambique, and in alliance with Pitt Health Sciences, Gorongosa National Park is becoming a global model for integrated conservation, science, education and community development.

Last November, Pitt Emergency Medicine faculty members Thomas E. Platt and Sheldon Williams traveled nearly 30 hours to Gorongosa to teach an Emergency Medical Responder course to GRP team members—helping empower local communities with lifesaving knowledge and care.

Considering a future in physical therapy? 👀🩺

Hear from Pitt Rehabilitation Science (BS’27) student Katie Brown about how the program is preparing her for PT school through hands-on learning, interdisciplinary experiences and a strong foundation in patient care!

“The Rehabilitation Science (RS) curriculum is great because it was created with graduate school in mind. While looking at the prerequisites for different Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs, I realized how perfectly the curriculum is created for the transition from an undergraduate program to graduate school.” - Brown

By 2030, only two U.S. states are projected to meet the growing demand for occupational therapy (OT). 📉 With 58% of rehab specialists reporting high levels of burnout, practitioners are stretched thinner than ever.

To combat this crisis, Kimberly Krebs and her Pitt Occupational Therapy team have developed a groundbreaking, six-element prompt framework to help OTs harness generative artificial intelligence (AI) safely and efficiently.

Unlike generic models, this technology uses a dual-phase evaluation loop to ensure treatment plans are clinically accurate, ethical and evidence-based.

As generative artificial intelligence (AI) enters the clinic, ensuring its safety is more critical than ever! 🤖🏥

Innovation without oversight is a risk that health care cannot afford. To bridge this gap, Yanshan Wang, assistant professor and vice chair for research in the Department of Health Information Management, and his team, developed QUEST—the first comprehensive software tool dedicated to the rigorous human evaluation of health care AI.

By guiding users through a structured three-phase framework—Planning, Implementation and Scoring—QUEST helps ensure that large language models (LLMs) are clinically accurate and standardized. Unlike generic tools, QUEST features health care-specific dimensions and expert review modules to maintain the highest standards of patient safety.
