The Red Masquers at Duquesne University is the oldest amateur theater company in Pittsburgh, currently celebrating its 109th season. The company provides an opportunity for students to learn about and participate in theater regardless of their major or background. Majors represented include business, pharmacy, communications, English and more. Membership is open to any student in good academic sta

nding. The Red Masquers perform a variety of acts throughout the year, including main-stage performances of the classical, modern, and contemporary, and musical variety. One of these is an alumni show, in which former members are invited to participate. Additionally, they generally perform two sets of one-act plays, student-written plays and selections from professional playwrights. Known as the Red Masquers since 1914, the company traces its roots back to the nineteenth century when Duquesne first began offering drama education. Since its founding, the company has given hundreds of performances in several venues and has weathered dramatic changes in its structure, the university and the city of Pittsburgh.
