Here are photos of the SUNY Plattsburgh History Department students who presented their research papers at today’s 2026 Senior Presentations, held in the Alumni Room in the Angell College Center of SUNY Plattsburgh Every one of them did a great job, and the attendees’ level of engagement made this a very enjoyable event. Thank you to all who presented and participated! We also wish to give special thanks to our department administrator, Karen Richard for organizing this event.

Here is a photo taken today of SUNY Plattsburgh history major Mikayla Ormsby with a cheque for having won the 2026 Benjamin Feinberg Library Research Prize for an essay she completed as an Historical Advanced Honors Project with the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Vincey Carey. Her essay is entitled "History Hates Lovers: Modern Perceptions of Q***r Relationships and Women in 19th Century America." Good things are happening in the SUNY Plattsburgh History Department

We are happy to announce that one of our majors, Mikayla Ormsby, has been awarded the 2026 Feinberg Library Undergraduate Research Prize. Mikayla’s paper, entitled “History Hates Lovers: The Modern Perception of Q***r Relationships in 19th Century America”, was written as a course assignment for Dr. Vincent Carey’s History 385 “Advanced Historical Practices” class. The prize carries with it a $500 award, a certificate, and publication in the SUNY Plattsburgh Institutional Repository.

SUNY Plattsburgh History Department majors Shane Gannon, Lucas Jesnen, Sarah Tansley, and Mikayla Ormsby
presented polished, professional and rigorous papers at the Phi Alpha Theta conference on Saturday at Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry this Saturday. They are picutred here with Sarah Root and their academic advisor, Professor Gary Kroll.

The quallity of their work was remarked upon by conference participants. And Sarah's essay on Bob Marshall and the Adirondacks garnered the prize for best paper.

We wish to congratulate them on their hard work.
