Lakeland University faculty are bringing big questions about humanity, nature and our place in the world to the community.

Associate Professor of Composition Alexis Piper, Ph.D., will explore the role of humans among Creation during the second annual Lakeland University Faculty Lecture, titled “Alternatives to Environmental Apocalypse: Interrupting Anthropocentrism as the Way Forward Together.”

Drawing from her scholarship in environmental rhetoric, nature writing and Indigenous eco-orientations, Piper will examine how we can move beyond a human-centered view of the world and reimagine our relationship with the natural world.

The lecture will be held Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Ellwood H. May Environmental Park in Sheboygan. The event is free and open to the public. Piper’s talk will also be offered at Lakeland’s campus on Tuesday, September 29, at 11 a.m. in the Bradley Theatre.

Read more about Piper’s lecture and her work at Lakeland.

Reimagining different relationships with the “natural” world and the role of human beings amongst Creation will be the topic of the second annual Lakeland University Faculty Lecture.

What do you remember most about college?

For Lakeland graduate Megan (Stock) Pickell ’08 MBA ’10, it’s not just the classes or what made it onto her résumé. It’s the people she met, the teams she joined and the opportunities she took seriously.

Pickell returned to campus Thursday as Lakeland’s Opening Convocation speaker, sharing four pieces of advice with a new generation of students: get involved but be intentional, build relationships, say yes before you feel ready and leave room for the unexpected.

Her own Lakeland experiences helped shape the person and professional she is today. Now, she’s sharing those lessons with the students following in her footsteps.

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. But that doesn’t mean you have to start over or let it set you back.

For Hannah, the credits she had already earned — along with the work experience she gained over the last eight years — counted toward her degree at Lakeland.

She wasn’t starting over... she was building on everything she had already accomplished.

Your experience has value, and at Lakeland, we recognize it — and want to help you get credit for it. Find out how your previous college, work and life experience could help you earn credit toward your degree — and save you time and money along the way.
