Lakeland University was proud to once again collaborate with the City of Sheboygan for this year’s Memorial Day events. Thank you to the veterans, active-duty personnel, community partners and community members who helped make the day such a meaningful tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country and to all who have served.

From the parade through downtown Sheboygan to the ceremony at Fountain Park that followed, it was an honor to come together in remembrance and gratitude.

Special thanks to the City of Sheboygan - City Hall, Sheboygan County Veterans Service Office, Launch: Lakeland Student-Run Businesses and Kohler Credit Union for helping make the day possible.

Lakeland students are turning classroom learning into real-world impact.

This spring, students in two courses participated in Wisconsin Labs for Environment and Democracy (WiLEAD), tackling environmental issues ranging from pollinator health and invasive species to food waste and water quality. Through hands-on projects, community partnerships and research, students gained valuable experience while helping spark meaningful conversations around important issues facing Wisconsin communities.

Alondra Guzman had always planned to go to college, but after the untimely loss of her brother, she believed that dream was no longer within reach.

Years later, a tour of Lakeland’s campus with her niece, a prospective student, changed everything.

Inspired by LU faculty member Karin Miofsky, just weeks later Alondra returned to campus — not as a chaperone, but as an accepted criminal justice student.

Alondra’s goal is to help people like her brother before they reach a point of no return. Through perseverance and purpose, she turned personal tragedy into motivation to make a difference.

We are incredibly proud of Alondra and all of our 2026 graduates, and we can’t wait to see the impact they make in the world.
