There are very few places that are open for officers and responders to eat on the evenings of Christmas Eve and Christmas. To that end, Ponca Lodge served Christmas dinner on Dec. 24th and Dec. 25th at the lodge on 1200 W. Grand Ave. to police, fire fighters, troopers, and the Sheriff’s Office. In addition to opening their doors, they also delivered meals to jailers and dispatchers.

The meals consisted of staples of Christmas dinner including turkey and ham, along with various sides and deserts. Approximately 33 lodge members and family members set aside their weekend and holiday to help out and provide these meals.

Around 78 law enforcement and support personnel were served over the two days. “All law enforcement and support personnel were appreciate meals they received and enjoyed,” said Jim Bowker, Ponca Lodge Master. “I was humbled by the number of lodge members, their families and friends that have their time on those holiday evenings.”

“We do not know one promise these men made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”

Brother General James A. Garfield on May 30th, 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery commemorating the first National Decoration Day, now known as Memorial Day.
