Soil, Sun and Spuds: How to Grow Healthy Potatoes

Do you KNOW you want to grow potatoes in your veggie garden this year? Are you not sure where to start? Jefferson County Master Gardener Dianna Wiklund will share her extensive knowledge of growing potatoes for our gardening benefit. She will cover how to prepare beds for potatoes, types that grow well here, and how to buy and plant them. Garden Know-How is followed by Ask-A-Master-Gardener Clinic from 1-3 PM. Sponsored by the JC Library and JC Master Gardeners.

Growing Groceries class is taught by seasoned Master Gardeners who specialize in growing food.

Location: Food Co-op Annex, in Port Townsend, WA
Time: Wednesdays, March 18th – April 22nd, 2026 from 9:00 – 12:00P
Cost: $60+ taxes for class

This 6-week in-person course will focus on the following garden essentials. Class will include lectures and activities on the following topics:
Garden design, site conditions and considerations;
Soil health, amendments and improvements;
Seed starting
Crop rotation, cover crops and plant families
Season extenders
Common disease and insect problems
Pollinator and beneficial insects

Jefferson County Master Gardener Program is proud to host Dr Kathleen Wolfe, University of Washington Professor at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Port Townsend. Her talk "How Urban Trees Sustain Us" will focus on urban trees and green spaces and how they are powerful public‑health asset.

Decades of research show urban trees and access to nature lower risks for major diseases, strengthen immune and family well‑being, improve birth outcomes, and expand opportunities for healthy activity.
