Anyone who has watched perfectly good strategies and solutions fall apart knows what Arnold Mindell is point to here. Whether at work, in the world, or you personal relationships, usually we have to get deeper. We have to get into the feeling atmosphere where the unspoken and the unspeakable live. The feeling atmosphere is often populated with power dynamics, ghosts of the past, old conflicts that were never resolved and deeply polarized positions. When you can get in there, and address what is present, true transformation can occur.

"According to Aboriginal thinking, the Dreaming is the basic substance of the material world. The Dreaming gives objects the energy that attracts and repels your attention. If you neglect the Dreaming, you devalue the material environment because you ignore its basis and thus miss half of life.
The power of the Dreaming is right here, behind the everyday world, as part of every object, the part you sometimes for get to notice...
It is always foolish to oversimplify complex problems. Nevertheless, from the viewpoint of the Dreaming, regardless of the complexity of your life, you can only have one problem– ignoring the Dreaming background to reality. Ignoring the Dreaming means marginalizing the deepest, unformulated experiences that create your actions in everyday life. Everything you ignore sentient, that is, generally unrecognized dreamlike perceptions, something inside you goes into a mild form of shock because you have overlooked the spirit of life, you greatest potential power."

From Arnold Mindell, Dreaming While Awake.

In conflict, how can BOTH people win? We win when we learn about ourselves. When we are able to hold our position, the other person's position and maybe even a third position that asks: What are these two people learning together? What is this conflict helping them to become aware of in themselves, about the other and about the field they are creating? We don't have control over another person, but we can build our awareness of what is really going on.

The upcoming training, Sitting in the Fire of Race: A Sovereign Approach addresses the one thing those tools require in order to function well under racial heat: a sovereign interior. A facilitator who loses themselves in the first moments of racial tension cannot use any of the tools they have. Sovereignty is what keeps the tools available.

In this conversation and Q&A, facilitator's Diane Wong and Renee Taylor from the Racial Justice Collaborative discuss the sovereign interior, lineage, rank and its relationship to the facilitators body, and what to expect from their upcoming training Sitting in the Fire of Race: A Sovereign Approach.

When working with relationships, we often try to impose strategies and techniques. These often only work for a short period of time because they are imposed over the actual process happening beneath.
The process is stronger than our everyday minds. It is stronger than a communication tool. It is the real thing happening between two people. When we can become of aware of and work with that, we are in alignment with the true nature of the individuals involved and the spiritual force of the relationship itself.

"Process work means following the way of nature. Process is that which is already happening. Not what should be done...
If we could train ourselves to be aware of processes, we could work with natural relationship forces and avoid the tendency to short circuit life by applying technical strategies or trying programs as short-term solutions...
Process work focuses upon the the intended and unintended processes, upon what is happening and trying to happen, not upon who should be present, what should be happening, or what roles should be filled."
