I first learned the art of home food preservation by my mother’s side while growing up in coastal Washington. I fondly remember stirring batches of hot jam made from the wild huckleberries and blackberries we picked, and anxiously watching as my mom loaded jars of local tuna into the pressure canner. Today I enjoy stocking up on seasonal market produce at its peak to supplement my home garden boun

ty and create salsas, sauces and other treats that reduce my family's need for mass-processed food. After earning my certification as a Master Preserver and Food Safety Advisor from Washington State University Extension I launched Modern Preserves so I can share my love and knowledge of the domestic arts with others.
