Reed College is an institution of higher education in the liberal arts devoted to the intrinsic value of intellectual pursuit and governed by the highest standards of scholarly practice, critical thought, and creativity. Its undergraduate program of study, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts, is demanding and intense and balances breadth of knowledge across the curriculum with depth of knowl

edge in a particular field of study. The goal of the Reed education is that students learn and demonstrate rigor and independence in their habits of thought, inquiry, and expression.

“The honor principle demands the respectful concern of each person for the other, and the exercise of conscionable judgment in all actions toward individuals and their property.”
—from Living with the Honor Principle, a Reed College document about our community’s guiding principle

Laura Jedeed ’19 recently returned to campus to give a talk titled: “What is to Be Done? How to Take Action in Horrifying Times.”

Drawing from her own experiences, she shared one piece of advice that stuck with everyone: If you want to change the world, start with soup.

She pointed to a network of community soup nights in New York as an example of how simple acts of gathering and sharing food can strengthen relationships, build trust, and create meaningful change.
