FLASHBACK FRIDAY!!!!!
Shout out for the STUDENT AMBASSADOR TEAM from 1996-1997. We have now photos with more than two colors. ~~Going back to 1996, what was happening on Portland State Campus? What were the news nationally? and What was going in the world?
Vikings Local:
In 1996, the Portland State Vikings athletics program began competing at the NCAA Division I Big Sky Conference. Prior to joining Division I, the 1975-1993 Athletics Director Roy Love ushered in the first era of conference sports and men’s football, baseball, and wrestling. Women’s sports generally began competing in NCAA Division II. Love’s efforts were rewarded with four NCAA Division II National Champion women’s volleyball teams and two championships in wrestling between 1982-1992.
National News:
Tuesday, April 2nd was Equal Pay Day in the United States. Equal Pay Day was launched by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996 to shine a light on pay disparity between men and women.
International News:
Britain is alarmed by an outbreak of "mad cow" disease (March 20 et seq.). Mad cow disease, also called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), is a fatal disease that slowly destroys the brain and spinal cord in cattle. People cannot get mad cow disease.
Fun Fact:
Michael Jordan signed a one-year NBA contract for $25 million.
