The Department of Art offers our students an exciting and synergistic learning environment in which to practice the visual arts and to study art in historical and theoretical contexts. Our faculty works to ensure that all students graduate with the ability to think creatively and critically, both in the art they produce and the art that they study from historical and theoretical perspectives. We prepare students to pursue advanced degrees in graduate school; for careers as visual artists or in gallery, museum, and arts administration; and for a life enriched by the visual arts.

This fall, the Hoffman Gallery hosts a featured exhibition for the 2026 Converge 45 triennial, Here, To you, Now, a city-wide exhibition that explores themes of impermanence and temporary community inspired by the writing of Ursula K. Le Guin. The Hoffman gallery will showcase Srijon Chowdhury’s immersive tarot-themed installation, The Phool, alongside Frank Heath’s Pony Express, a cinematic inquiry into historical reconstruction and global fragility. The exhibition opened on Sunday, August 30, 2026 and continues through to December 10th. Gallery hours are 11am-4pm daily.

An appreciation post for the greatest artist there is: Mother Nature! What better way to ring in the springtime with a walk or picnic around the waterfront with a rain of cherry blossom petals! Make sure to visit them before they’re gone! 🍒🌸✨
