National Sustainability Education Week:
Educating for Citizen-Leadership
Presented by Students for Leadership in Ecology, Culture & Learning and the US Partnership for Decade for Education for Sustainable Development
Per a US Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development resolution, November 9th through the 13th has been named National Sustainability Education Week (NSEW)--a week in which educators, schools, students, colleges and community members are asked to participate in learning opportunities focused around sustainability leadership with the hope that such activities will permeate the entire year.
Bringing the week to PSU, the Students for Leadership in Ecology, Culture & Learning (SLECL) student group, with its many partners, has planned a week worth of events focused around sustainability education/leadership, seeking to further understand our role in bridging local, regional and global issues to effect a just, livable, diverse and sustainable world.
Through PSU's unique leadership role in sustainability education within the continuing sustainability dialogue so present on its campus, the events of NSEW at PSU hope to progress and perpetuate sustainability education dialogue, partnerships between the community and the university, an educational model of collaborative leadership and transformation and the importance of multi- sector, discipline and generational interaction and learning. Laying the foundation for implementing ongoing learning and leadership development pathways for PSU participants and community partners, collaborative learning teams consisting of students, administrators, faculty, and community members will reconvene after the week’s events to reflect upon the experience of cross-sector collaborative learning.
