We just got word that alumnus and long-time professor/administrator Dr. Joe Wong ‘62 entered heaven on February 14, 2023 at the age of 83.

After completing a degree in chemistry from UC Berkeley, Dr. Wong completed Multnomah’s graduate certificate in Bible in 1962. During his time at Multnomah, Dr. Wong met his wife Rose ‘62. They married in 1963.

He returned to teach at Multnomah in 1971 and remained on staff until his retirement in 2004. Over the course of his extended tenure, Dr. Wong taught theology and Christian education, served as academic Dean, and retired as the vice president of information services. As an administrator, he was instrumental in bringing personal computers to campus and was part of the group that launched the school’s first website.

Please join us in praying for Dr. Wong’s family — his wife, three children, and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10 at 12:30pm at Village Church in Beaverton.

Former Multnomah dean of students, Matt Rygg passed away on Dec. 13, 2022 after a brief battle with an aggressive melanoma. Matt served the students of Multnomah from 2007-2011.

During his tenure at Multnomah, Matt helped professionalize the university’s student life function, hiring trained specialists to more effectively meet the needs of students. He overhauled the disability resources program, advocated for marginalized and underrepresented students, and was instrumental in the creation of Roger’s (the campus coffee shop).

Please join us in praying for Matt’s family, friends, and all those who were impacted by his life and work.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Beaverton.

Multnomah has learned that longtime faculty member, Richard “Dick” Bohrer ‘51 entered glory on December 21, 2022.

A 1951 alumnus of Multnomah’s graduate certificate program, Dick and his wife Betty moved to Portland in 1963 to start the journalism program at Multnomah. In total, he taught at Multnomah from 1963-1979. He returned as an adjunct professor for one year in 2000.

Dick also authored numerous books including “Lion of God: A Biography of John G. Mitchell,” Multnomah’s founder.

A memorial service is planned for January 16 at 10am at Mount View Baptist Temple in Tualatin, Oregon.

Please join us in praying for Prof. Bohrer’s family.

Multnomah men's basketball player Zach Richardson is only a few baskets away from becoming the third player in Multnomah history to score 2,000 points in his collegiate career. His pursuit of this milestone was recently highlighted on a local blog, Craw's Corner (link below).

More important than his records on the court, however, is his success outside the gym. Zach completed his undergraduate degree in psychology in 2022 and will complete his master's degree in Management & Leadership this spring. He's also led Bible studies with teammates.

If you haven't seen Zach play, there are plenty of home games you can catch in Lytle Gym this January and February.
