The second part of our students’ trip to Asia brought them to Tokyo, where they had the chance to visit some incredible brands like Goldwin, Columbia Sportswear, Keen, and Vibram, where key members of the Japan teams spoke with students and shared their wisdom. The Tokyo leg of the trip also included retail tours to top-of-line retail spaces, and even a night out watching the Tokyo Giants baseball team!

The learnings that SPM students receive while they are in Asia are rare and invaluable, putting the trip as a true cornerstone of the program✨

Excited to welcome Blair who graduated from Oregon State University–Cascades with a Bachelor of Science in Business and a minor in Outdoor Products Design.

His education combines a foundation in business with hands-on exposure to the outdoor product industry, giving him a background that bridges product development, design, materials, and the business side of the industry.

Along with nearly a decade of retail experience, Blair has gained hands-on experience in prototyping, product development, and design. His interests include footwear, materials, and emerging technologies that can push product performance and innovation forward.

An avid skier, mountain biker, fly fisher, and backpacker, Blair is passionate about creating products that help athletes and outdoor enthusiasts perform at their best.

He chose Sport Product Management to build on his business education and further connect the worlds of marketing, design, materials, and athlete insights.

Welcome, Class of 2028! 💚💛

The SPM journey begins! This week, we welcomed the Sports Product Management Class of 2028 to Portland for four days of orientation centered on academic excellence, self-awareness, professional growth, and community.
From their first Consumer Insights class and leadership workshop to team building, career development, and exploring Portland’s retail scene, our newest cohort is already experiencing what makes SPM special: learning by doing, growing together, and connecting with the industry and community around them.
A highlight of the week was welcoming SPM cofounders Dr. Ellen Schmidt-Devlin and Dr. Roger Best to share their perspective with the next generation of sports product leaders.

Every year, SPM students take nearly 2 weeks at the end of the Summer to travel together to Asia to learn about the manufacturing and supply chain components of the industry, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the APAC market. 💚

Their first stop was to Vietnam, where they had the privilege of visiting four manufacturing sites of footwear and apparel for major sportswear brands. Outside of these incredible visits, students were also taken on a boat tour of the Makong Delta and had time to explore Ho Chi Minh city! 💛

🌏 What if you could see how products from multiple global brands are made before starting your career with just one?

UO Sports Product Management students take their learning beyond the classroom and into the global sports product industry.

On the SPM Asia trip, students step inside manufacturing facilities in Vietnam to experience footwear and apparel production firsthand, then head to Japan to explore retail, consumers, culture, and the global marketplace.

On September 30, you will have the chance to hear from students who have just returned from their trip to Asia.

Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Eliana graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Sports Media. A lifelong Colorado sports fan and proud Buffs supporter, she has always been drawn to the stories, culture, and products that shape the sports industry.
After college, Eliana freelanced for several sports magazines, covering college football and women’s college basketball. At the same time, she worked at two Nike retail locations, where she developed a strong interest in merchandising and product strategy.
Outside of work, Eliana enjoys spending time outdoors, going for runs, attending concerts, and watching just about any sporting event. She’s also a self-proclaimed morning person who loves starting her day with a cup of coffee and a workout class.
Eliana chose Sport Product Management to continue building her product knowledge and grow her passion for merchandising into a career in the sports industry.
