If it had been a counting game, today's exhibition would have been the Vikings' highest scoring game in 32 years. So, the Vikings will just have to do it again Monday, Nov. 2, when they officially open their season against Pepperdine.

The Vikings hope to put a spook into the Vandals Saturday in their first Halloween game since 2015.

The last time the Portland State football team played on Halloween in 2015, the Vikings beat a 17th-ranked Montana team 35-16 amid a torrential downpour at Providence Park. It was the Vikings' first win over Montana in 11 years and came as part of the Vikings' march to the FCS playoffs that year.

Idaho State spoiled Portland State head coach Chris Fisk's first game coaching back in his hometown. The Vikings will now look for a warmer homecoming next Saturday, when they return home for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Idaho.

It may be an exhibition, but Sunday's game against Nevada will be the first taste of Portland State men's basketball that fans have had since they lifted the regular-season trophy last March. That's something to celebrate.

The nickname of Reno, Nev., is "the biggest little city in the world." That seems analogous to the Portland State men's basketball team's exhibition against Nevada Sunday (1:30 p.m. Tip), as the Vikings face off against the Wolf Pack at Lawlor Events Center.

Last week, the Portland State women's soccer team earned their first win in conference play with a 2-1 victory over Big Sky leaders Weber State. They fell 1-0 to Idaho State in their second match of the week after conceding a goal not three minutes into the first half.
