The future of business depends on identifying and managing risk, and students at The School of Business are already gaining hands-on experience in this growing field.

Last week, students in our new Risk Management course attended the Oregon RIMS Education Day in Sisters, Oregon, where they learned directly from industry professionals about emerging challenges facing organizations today. From managing AI-related risks to understanding complex insurance and contractual relationships, students explored the real-world issues that risk management professionals navigate every day.

Opportunities like this are helping students connect classroom concepts with industry practice while building valuable professional networks. As The School of Business continues to expand experiential learning opportunities, programs like Risk Management are preparing students with the knowledge and skills employers are looking for in an increasingly complex business environment.

Success is about more than earning a degree. It's about the relationships you build, the opportunities you pursue, and the community that supports you along the way.

At Portland State University's School of Business, students are connected to a network of faculty mentors, student organizations, industry professionals, career resources, and hands-on learning experiences that help them grow both personally and professionally.

For Emily Chhunkeo, MBA '26, mentorship, internships, and campus involvement helped transform self-doubt into confidence and led to a career at U.S. Bank.

For Kenny Adams, MSRE '26, connections made through the Center for Real Estate and the School of Business community opened doors to industry experience, professional relationships, and a new career in commercial real estate.

For Roy Antano Lopez, Marketing '26, faculty mentorship and real-world learning opportunities helped him discover his passion for advertising while building a strong professional network and valuable career experience.

While each student's journey is unique, their stories highlight the impact of a supportive community that encourages students to explore opportunities, build meaningful connections, and prepare for what's next.

At The School of Business, we are committed to helping students find their path and create opportunities that extend far beyond graduation.

Second Commencement Ceremony

Every graduate has a story.

Some balanced work and school. Some were the first in their family to earn a degree. Some discovered new passions, built lifelong friendships, or found the confidence to pursue goals they once thought were out of reach.

On Saturday afternoon, undergraduate business students celebrated the culmination of their Portland State journey and the beginning of something new.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. The School of Business community will always be cheering you on.

First Commencement Ceremony

There’s something unforgettable about the smiles, laughter, tears, and sense of accomplishment that fill a commencement ceremony.

On Saturday morning, undergraduate and graduate students from The School of Business gathered to celebrate an achievement that represents countless hours of learning, perseverance, and personal growth. Each walk across the stage reflected not only where they started, but how far they’ve come.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. This year, we proudly celebrated approximately 700 bachelor’s and master’s graduates as they reached this important milestone.

Students explored how to create authentic marketing portfolios, communicate the impact behind their projects, and identify the unique strengths that set them apart in a competitive job market. The session challenged students to think beyond a collection of assignments and view their portfolio as a reflection of their growth, skills, and career aspirations.

Experiences like this are a hallmark of our Marketing program. Through direct engagement with industry professionals and real-world business challenges, students gain practical experience, build professional networks, and develop the confidence to launch successful careers.

Thank you to Alexis Rodriguez and Sky Society for investing in the next generation of marketing professionals.

Last week, Portland State University's School of Business Graduate Programs team traveled to Philadelphia for the 2026 GMAC Annual Conference, where they presented Pathways to Enrollment Excellence: Aligning Curriculum, Enrollment Strategy, and Student Value in 4+1 Programs.

As the needs of students and employers continue to evolve, innovative degree pathways are becoming increasingly important. At The School of Business, programs like our 4+1 pathways help students accelerate their education, reduce the time and cost of earning a graduate degree, and enter the workforce with advanced skills and credentials.

During the session, our team shared strategies for aligning curriculum, enrollment planning, and student value to create pathways that support both student success and workforce needs. The presentation highlighted how institutions can use data, market insights, and strategic planning to develop programs that strengthen enrollment pipelines while delivering meaningful outcomes for students.

We are proud to contribute to national conversations about the future of business education and to help shape innovative solutions that prepare the next generation of business leaders.

Great advertising is more than creativity. It requires strategic thinking, collaboration, and the ability to turn ideas into measurable results. At Portland State University's School of Business, Advertising Management students gain hands-on experience working with real clients, developing marketing strategies, leading creative projects, and building campaigns that address real business challenges.

For Advertising graduate Jordan Robison, the program provided opportunities to apply classroom learning beyond the classroom. Through Student Works, PSU's student-run advertising agency, he collaborated with clients, led creative teams, and contributed to campaigns for organizations such as Powell's Books, Inc., gaining experience in every stage of the advertising process, from strategy and research to creative ex*****on.

These experiences help students develop the skills employers seek: strategic thinking, communication, leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving.
