Beat the late summer heat and join us at the Shawnee State Clark Planetarium, Saturday August 19, 2-5pm for our Welcome Back Autumn Kickoff event.

We’ll be showing off our “new to us” art installation - “A New World View.” This beautiful glass artwork both commemorates Albert Einstein’s miracle year (1905) in which his publications kickstarted modern physics and looks to the future by incorporating images of school children. Some of these folks come from our region in Adams County, OH.

We will also have fun physics demonstrations, planetarium shows, and snacks! All free and open to the public – hope to see you there.

Looking for a great way to spend an evening? How would you like to travel the cosmos or swing on a star? Come out to the Clyde W. Clark Planetarium located within the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) on the campus of Shawnee State University. We offer shows every Monday and Thursday at 7:00 PM for the public to attend. Also, did we mention THEY'RE FREE?

To find out more about the Clark Planetarium, visit planetarium.shawnee.edu or simply do a Google search for Clark Planetarium at Shawnee State. Here you can view monthly show schedules, show descriptions and run-times, and even schedule private events. Teachers, what better way to get your students engaged and interested in astronomy and science than showing them firsthand? Invite your friends and family for an evening of phenomenal cosmic fun. We hope to see you here.

We're open again! We have free, public shows at 7:00 PM on Mondays and Thursdays, except on major holidays. The May show schedule is listed below, although we're actually closed on Memorial Day, May 31.

Please note that masks are required (we have a few extras to hand out if you don't have one).

01/08/2021

We're still closed because of the coronavirus for now, but as more and more of the public gets vaccinated, we hope that will end before too long. We'll post updates here. See you soon!

The Clark Planetarium will be shutting down operations for renovations, beginning Monday, July 29, until the project is finished, which we hope to be about half way through August. We will put out a notice once the Planetarium is back up and running.

This Thursday's public show will continue as normal. We hope to see you there.

That previous picture was just one frame of a timelapse video I took of Orion rising over the Smoky Mountains. Here's the whole thing, from 10:00 PM—12:30 AM, November 25-26, 2017. If you look carefully, you can see two meteors streak past. They're bright and sudden, unlike the blinking planes that are visible for several frames.

It's time for some astrophotography. Here is Orion rising over the Smoky Mountains last weekend. Miller's Cove Missionary Baptist Church is at the bottom.

Nikon D3100, f/3.4, 18-mm lens, 10" exposure. I've done some processing to bring out the fainter stars.
