As Director of Clarkson University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Labs, Professor Carl Hoover is focused on preparing students for the future of engineering through hands-on learning, advanced data analysis and emerging artificial intelligence applications.

That work extends beyond the classroom. Later this month, Carl and a Clarkson graduate student will present their research at the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Conference, sharing two AI-focused papers that explore new approaches at the intersection of engineering education and technology.

From leading cutting-edge laboratory experiences to advancing applied data science solutions, Carl’s work reflects Clarkson’s commitment to combining experiential learning with innovation that prepares students for the rapidly evolving engineering landscape.

🤖 Preparing Students for an AI-Driven Future

Artificial intelligence is transforming every industry—from healthcare and manufacturing to finance, robotics and cybersecurity. To help students lead in this rapidly evolving landscape, Clarkson University is launching a new Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning minor.

Designed for students across disciplines, the program combines foundational AI and machine learning concepts with hands-on experience, empowering graduates to understand, develop and apply emerging technologies to solve real-world challenges.

“AI is reshaping every discipline, and this minor ensures our students are ready for that reality,” says Academic Dean Mahesh Banavar.

By building on Clarkson’s strengths in engineering, computing, analytics and experiential learning, this new program will prepare students with the skills and knowledge employers are increasingly seeking.

Our what's next after graduation final spotlights!

Carly LaBow, MBA, will begin her career as an Operations Analyst with Veritas Prime in Portland, Maine. “I’m excited to move to a new city and begin my role with Veritas Prime. Clarkson played a major role in helping me get here—from building relevant experience through the Reh School of Business to making the connection at the Career Fair that led to this opportunity.”

Diego Lizotte, Political Science & Financial Information Analysis, will pursue a master’s degree in Wine & Spirits Management at KEDGE Business School. “I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned at the intersection of politics and finance, whether through policy or business strategy, and continue my career abroad in Bordeaux, France.”

Emily Greene, Engineering & Management, is pursuing a role as a Project Engineer with Rifenburg. “Clarkson taught me more than technical skills. It taught me how to understand people, tackle complex challenges, and bring my best to every opportunity.”

Jade Stevenson, Global Supply Chain Management, is headed to Michaels to launch her career in supply chain management. “I’m excited to move to New Hampshire and begin my career with Michels Corporation. Clarkson’s Reh School of Business connected me with my employer through the Career Fair and gave me the education and experience to succeed in this role and beyond. I’m grateful for an incredible college experience and the foundation for this next chapter.”

An evening on the water and a celebration of lasting impact.

During the CAMP Technical Meeting, Clarkson faculty, students, and alumni gather with industry partners to connect, exchange ideas and strengthen the collaborations that drive innovation in advanced materials processing. Monday night’s dinner boat cruise on the St. Lawrence River capped a day full of engaging technical presentations.

A special highlight of the week has been the recognition of Professor Emeritus Dick Partch, who is being honored for an incredible 60 years of service to Clarkson University. Throughout the conference, speakers have reflected on Dr. Partch’s contributions to research, education and mentorship, underscoring the profound influence he has had on generations of students, faculty and professionals.

Events like the CAMP Annual Technical Meeting showcase the power of bringing together Clarkson’s scientific and engineering experts with partners from industry to tackle complex challenges, share knowledge and inspire the next generation of innovators.
