SUNY Potsdam Law Enforcement Training Institute

SUNY Potsdam Law Enforcement Training Institute The Institute is a Certified New York State Department of Criminal Justice / Office of Public Safety Police & Peace Officer Academy

Past students have used this Phase 1 Training (93% of a certified police academy) to help them become more marketable with police agencies in New York State and across the country. Many more have used it help them go into other branches of Law Enforcement in a plethora of Federal, State, Local and Private agencies. Such as NYPD, State Police, Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Eme

rgency Services, Supreme Court Police, DEC, Forest Ranger, Parole, Probation, Corrections, Campus Security, U.S. Military, 911 dispatching, Mental Health, and the list goes on. The reason this training is sought after is there is arguably no other training that non hired citizens may attend that covers so many certified law enforcement topics. The other 7% is known as Phase 2. This is for hired police officers only. This covers Range, Field Training, Radar, Taser, Breathalyzer and Basic Observation and Suspicious Activity Recognition. Should a cadet opt to become a police officer, they will be put through this training by their hiring agency as required by state mandate. The SUNY Potsdam Law Enforcement Training Institute stands above many other academies as the Director holds a multitude of Instructor Certifications where he spends the majority of the time with cadets engaging in Reality Based Training, Defensive Tactics, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Active Shooter, De-Escalation Techniques, Cultural Diversity/Bias Related Incidents and Proper Use of Force Training. The Institute is one of only a few academies that incorporates a Firearms Simulator of over 1,000 Shoot/Don't Shoot interactive screen scenarios as well as Stress Vests (commonly referred to by past cadets as "laser tag on steroids"). Proper Use of Force is a staple with this academy. The Director retired as a Major Crimes Detective Sergeant with over 22 years of policing in New York's largest county. Coupled with his military, 35 plus years of mixed martial arts and SWAT team experience, the Director proudly focuses on his techniques he used to retire with no personnel complaints. He is a believer in treating everyone like family and teaches this concept to his cadets each class. Participate and become what is now referred to as "Duquette Trained" and make a much needed difference with whatever branch of Law Enforcement you ultimately choose to go into!
